FAR - Contract for newbuildings

Farstad Shipping ASA has, through its wholly owned subsidiary Farstad Supply AS, reached an agreement with Aker Yards to build 4 anchor handling tug supply vessels (AHTS) of the type UT 731 CD. The newbuilds are part of Farstad's fleet renewal and focus on the segment for deepwater activities.
 
The steel hulls will be built in Romania and outfitting yard will be Aker Yards Langsten. Delivery of the vessels from Aker Yards Langsten will be April 2009, September 2009, January 2010 and March 2010.
 
The vessels are a new design from Rolls-Royce, and has been given the designation UT 731 CD (see attachment) with a total length of 87.4 meters and breadth of 21.0 meters. The vessels bollard pull will be approx. 240 tons and they will have installed a total of 25000 BHP. The vessels will be built according to DNV's strictest environmental class; "Clean Design", and will have a range of newly developed and advanced equipment for the handling of heavy equipment on deck. They are arranged for effective and safe operation in harsh environment areas and deep waters.
 
With this latest order Farstad will have 14 vessels under construction at a contract value of NOK 5.4 billion.
